Heather R. Self is a Business Alliance Manager for the Dealer Services Division of Automatic Data Processing, Inc. Her practice emphasizes software licensing, development, distribution and service agreements and mergers and acquisitions.

Prior to joining Automatic Data Processing, Inc., Heather worked as General Counsel for DecisionPoint Software. Heather has been a member of the Oregon and Washington State Bars since 2001. She obtained her J.D. from Northwestern School of Law of Lewis and Clark College and a B.A. in History from the University of Memphis. Heather chaired the Luncheon CLE subcommittee of the CILS in 2006.

After serving in the U.S. Navy, Marinus returned to community college and then to the University of Washington. He holds a B.S. in Robotic Heuristics. Several years in Manufacturing Engineering for commercial airline propulsion systems were followed by several years in System, Network & Database Administration for dot-com businesses.

Debating Copyright questions with co-workers, he realized that more legal knowledge would be an advantage, and entered the University of Washington School of Law full time. He held his dot-com job until he graduated and moved to Portland.

He is a member of the bar in Oregon and in Washington. He volunteers his time to Multnomah Legal Aid, and handles open-source licensing questions for a small software company in Portland. For 2007, he chairs the Luncheon CLE subcommittee of the CILS

Robert Swider is a partner at Swider Medeiros Haver LLP. He has been representing clients including plaintiffs and defendants as a trial attorney for more than twenty five years in civil cases involving intellectual property, copyright law, trademark law, computer law, unfair trade practices, electronic commerce, general business, complex litigation, personal injuries and real estate. He also provides counsel to clients in diverse fields of endeavor whose business affairs involve intellectual property and commercial law. He has substantial experience in the representation of technology-related businesses and the representation of plaintiffs in personal injury
cases.

He has been actively involved with the Oregon State Bar Computer and Internet Law Section since 1989 and has helped plan many seminars and has spoken and written frequently on topics related to Computer and Internet Law.

Karen Dana Oster is a patent prosecutor who specializes in obtaining patents for software, business methods, mechanical devices, and electrical apparatus. Her practice focuses on writing patent applications and guiding them through the patent prosecution process at the United States Patent and Trademark Office. Karen also regularly prepares patentability, noninfringement, and infringement opinions. Strategic analysis and counseling regarding intellectual property portfolios is another service she offers her clients.

Karen has been a practicing patent prosecutor since 1993. Before that, she obtained a BA in English from University of California Santa Barbara, a BS in Computer Engineering from California State University Long Beach, and a JD from Loyola Law School. Between 1995 and 2001, Karen co-authored the Federal Circuit Patent Case Digests published by West Group. Karen served on the executive committee of the Oregon State Bar Intellectual Property Section between 1994 and 2002, including being chair in 2001. Marti McCausland is Manager of Attorney Recruiting at Tonkon Torp LLP, where she oversees law student, entry level and lateral hiring, and helps plan professional development programs. Marti volunteers as a night clinic attorney at St. Andrew Legal Clinic and is a CASA in Multnomah County. She has a J.D. from Fordham School of Law and is an active member of the Oregon State Bar. Prior to her work in attorney recruiting and professional development, Marti practiced patent law, building on an earlier career in software development.

Travis J. Benn is Corporate Counsel for Harland Financial Solutions, a technology company serving the needs of financial institutions. He is a graduate of Davidson College in Davidson, North Carolina, where he obtained a B.A. in English, and the University of North Carolina – Chapel Hill School of Law. He has been a practicing attorney in the Portland area since 2003. Travis’s practice focuses on licensing, copyright, commercial, and general corporate law. Travis has been an active member of the Executive Committee of the Computer and Internet Law Section of the Oregon State Bar for several years.

Richard A. Wilhelm is a sole practitioner, http://www.wilhelm-law.net/, who limits his practice to business and intellectual property law, including patent prosecution. He is admitted to practice before Oregon state and Federal courts, and before the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office. He formerly practiced law at large and boutique law firms, and at a large financial institution as associate general counsel. Mr. Wilhelm's business experience includes work as a project manager on software development projects and as head of regulatory compliance. Mr. Wilhelm holds a B.S. in Economics from the University of Oregon, a B.S. in Electrical Engineering from Portland State University (PSU), as well as a J.D. from Lewis and Clark College. He has lectured at PSU on non-disclosure agreements and before the Oregon Patent Law Association (OPLA) on ethical issues arising in patent prosecution. Mr. Wilhelm is past president of the OPLA and currently serves on their board. Mr. Wilhelm is also past secretary and treasurer of the Computer and Internet Law Section.

Emilee S. Preble is a Staff Attorney and the Excess Program Administrator with the Oregon State Bar Professional Liability Fund. She joined the Fund in January 2011.

Emilee is a graduate of Indiana University School of Law, Indianapolis, IN (J.D. 2009) and is a member of the Oregon State Bar. She received a B.A. in Media Studies from Butler University in 2005. She also attended the University of Stirling in Scotland and studied Islamic Law at the American University in Cairo, Egypt.

Prior to law school, Emilee worked in the area of information technology and data analysis for Butler University's Admissions Office. Throughout law school she continued to work in data analysis by researching national trends in ERISA litigation for a start-up company based in Massachusetts. As a law student she published a note on nanotechnology regulations in the Indiana Health Law Review and worked in the law school's Immigration Clinic.

Kalei L. Taylor is a Deputy City Attorney with the City of Portland. She joined the City in September 2006, and focuses primarily on software license/technology contracting, public procurement, public records, social media, trademark, copyright and related issues. She also works on City liens, foreclosures and collections. Her main responsibility within the City is advising the Bureau of Technology Services where she provides review and advice for its contracting functions. She has served a term on the OSB Affirmative Action Committee, is a member of the OSB Diversity Section and Oregon Minority Lawyers Association. She is an at-large member of the OSB Computer and Internet Law Section. Kalei attended Portland State University for a B.A. in International Studies and a B.A. in Political Science with a minor in History. She received a J.D. from Northwestern School of Law of Lewis & Clark College.
