JUne 21st, 2007 Luncheon CLE Presentation
Oregon State Bar Computer and Internet Law Section

The third draft of the Free Software Foundation's General Public License is out, generating lively debate as well as sparking friction. What do the changes mean for Open Source creators and users? Which are the "hot spots" of the revised language? Will it close the TiVo loophole? Who'll be licking their chops if this language is adopted -- and who'll be licking their wounds?

Our speaker is Professor Dan Laster of the University of Washington School of Law. Professor Laster previously was Associate General Counsel for Microsoft Corporation responsible for the trademark, copyright, trade secret and standards practices. During his career with Microsoft he was responsible for the team registering the Windows trademark and also helped the company formulate its positions on the Digital Millennium Copyright Act and 1996 World Intellectual Property Organization (WIPO) Copyright Treaty. Professor Laster specializes in various advanced Intellectual Property courses.
